What is Mu Alpha Theta?

ΜΑθ is a national organization of math clubs.The purpose of this club is not only to honor those students with outstanding achievement in mathematics but also to promote scholarship, enjoyment, and understanding of math.For more information about Mu Alpha Theta, check out www.mualphatheta.org.

 

Who can join?

To be eligible for membership, you must have on overall �A� average in regular math courses or and overall �B� average in accelerated math courses.You must have completed two (2) college preparatory math courses (i.e. Algebra I and II, Geometry) and be enrolled in a third.Associate members must have completed Algebra I and be enrolled in a higher course. There is a lifetime membership fee of $12.00. Associate members pay a $4.00 fee, which can be applied to their full membership later. In addition, � hour of tutoring service per quarter is required to keep your membership active.Mu Alpha Theta T-shirts are available for an additional $8.00.

 

What does Mu Alpha Theta do?

Mu Alpha Theta usually meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays during homeroom in room 154. The 2nd Wednesday of the month will be used for after school meetings as required. Watch the school announcements for more information.

Our school service project is to provide tutoring for students who need help with math.Each member should complete two hours of tutoring each year in order to be eligible for continued membership.  Tutors are available after school every Tuesday in room 153 and every Wednesday in room 154 from 3:00 PM-4:00 PM.

 

Mu Alpha Theta also sponsors a mathematics contest.This contest is open to all Central students who excel in mathematics with preference given to MAθ members.A teacher recommendation is required.Awards are given to the top performers on the test.

 

Who can run for office?

Any Mu Alpha Theta member in good standing may be elected as an officer. Officers must be full members with all membership fees and tutoring hours up to date. Officers will be elected in August and will include:�� President������ Vice-President��������� Secretary������ Treasurer
